An observation template is the questionnaire a participant in a lesson observation fills in. There are three types: Observer (questions for the observer), Student (questions for the students, anonymous) and Teacher (questions for the teacher's self-evaluation). Only an observer template is needed to start an observation.

Who can do this
- Administrators with the permission Manage students (
manage_students). - The Lesson Observations module must be part of your organization's package. You do not switch a module on yourself: change the package or ask Aqlemy.
- Teachers cannot open this page.
Step by step: create a template
- Click New Template.
- Basic information: enter the Template Name, optionally a description, and choose the Template Type: Observer, Student or Teacher.
- Questions: add at least one question. Available are, among others, open questions, ratings and scales, multiple choice (with options), checkboxes and yes/no questions. Change the order by dragging.
- Translations (optional): add the questions in other languages.
- Settings: Active Template (only active templates can be chosen for a new observation) and Default Template (preselected automatically).
- Click Save Template.
Manage templates
- Filter with the tabs All, Observer Templates, Student Templates and Teacher Templates, search with Search templates... or tick Active Only.
- Copy makes a copy of a template to build on.
- Editing opens the same page; there you also see the Usage Count.
- If you no longer want to use a template, turn off Active Template. Deleting is also possible, after confirmation.
I can't see it / it doesn't work
- A template is not in the list for a new observation. The template is not active, or its type differs from the part you are choosing for.
- Saving fails. Name and type are required, there must be at least one question, every question must be filled in and a multiple-choice question needs options.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need all three types? No. An observer template is enough. Student and teacher templates are only needed if you tick student feedback or a self-evaluation on an observation.
Does an ongoing observation change if I edit the template? When in doubt, make a copy with Copy and edit that, so ongoing observations keep their questions.
