Notifications, language and theme

Allow push notifications, choose your app language and switch between the light and dark theme.

Updated: June 25, 2026

A few settings make the app yours: allow notifications so you don't miss anything, pick your language and set the light or dark theme. You'll find all of this in the app settings and your profile.

Where to find it

Open the app → go to your profile/menuApp settings. There you'll find Language, Theme and a shortcut to Notifications. You can also set language and theme at the top of the startup screen, before signing in.

Allowing push notifications

Push notifications alert you about new announcements, homework, payments, events and more — even when the app is closed.

  1. The first time you open the app, your device asks for notification permission. Tap Allow.
  2. Declined by accident? Turn notifications on in your phone's settings → find AqlemyNotifications → allow.
  3. In your profile → Notifications you can additionally toggle in-app notifications and email notifications.

Changing the app language

The app supports four languages: Dutch, Turkish, English and Arabic (Arabic is shown right-to-left).

  1. Go to App settings → Language.
  2. Tap the language you want. A short confirmation appears.
  3. The app switches immediately — no restart needed.

Light or dark theme

  1. Go to App settings → Theme (or flip the Dark mode switch in your profile).
  2. Tap to switch between light and dark.

Your organization's colors stay recognizable in both themes.

Tips

  • Keep notifications on — otherwise you'll miss payment reminders and important announcements.
  • Your language choice is remembered and linked to your account, so it's already right on a new device.

Frequently asked questions

Do I still get notifications when the app is closed? Yes, as long as you allowed push notifications on your device.

Does changing the language also change the content? Buttons and menus change with it; texts your organization types itself (like an announcement) stay in the language they were written in.

Troubleshooting

  • I'm not getting notifications. Check that notifications are allowed in your phone settings for Aqlemy, that you have an internet connection, and that you're signed in. Your device's do-not-disturb mode can also suppress them.
  • The language doesn't change everywhere. Fully close the app and reopen it; some headers only refresh then.
  • I don't see a language choice in my profile. The full language list lives in App settings; the language picker doesn't appear in the profile for every role — use App settings.
