Managing holidays and closures

On the Holidays page you record days off and closures. A holiday is a whole day or period without start and end times (optionally with an early dismissal time). It appears in the mobile app for the chosen audience, under the right season.

Where to find it

Sidebar → Planning → Holidays. You choose the view List View, Calendar View or Official holidays. In the calendar, Show official holidays adds the official holidays. A grid view no longer exists.

Who can do this

• Permission Manage planning (manage_planning).
• The Holidays module is in the Education Light, Education Complete and Members + Education Complete plans, not in Membership System. You can see modules in Settings → Settings, tab Features (read-only).
• Teachers have no access.

Set up

1. Check the seasons (school years) in Settings → Settings, tab Academic Year Settings. The default Region for official holidays (Noord, Midden or Zuid) is there too.
2. Add the official holidays (see below) and complete them with your own days off.

Step by step: add official holidays

1. Choose the Official holidays view.
2. Choose the Region. If a default region is set, it is already selected.
3. You see the school holidays and public holidays from the Dutch government for that school year. Click Add on a row, or Add all. Rows already added are marked.

Step by step: create a holiday yourself

1. Click New Holiday.
2. Fill in the name and choose the start and end date.
3. Choose the Holiday Type: School Holiday, Official Holiday or Event Related.
4. Check the season. It follows the start date automatically. If you choose a different season yourself, you see "This start date falls in season … Under a different season the holiday is not visible in the app." Then click Use ….
5. Choose the audience. Optionally turn on Early Dismissal with a time.
6. Turn on Send notification if the audience should get a push notification. It is off by default.
7. Save.

I don't see it / it doesn't work

• The holiday is not in the app. The app looks up holidays by the exact season. A wrong season hides the holiday without any error. Open the holiday and click Use …; then check the audience.
• Official holidays temporarily unavailable. The government data could not be fetched. Try again later; sometimes you see the last data that was fetched.
• I don't see Holidays in the sidebar. You lack the Manage planning permission, or your plan does not include the module (Membership System).

Frequently asked questions

Does the audience get a push notification automatically? No, only if you turn on Send notification.

Can I add holidays from another country? No, only the official Dutch holidays. You enter other days off yourself.

Can I link a holiday to an event? Yes, when you create an event, with Create holiday for this event.
